what i saw from the train back home (2019)

As an ongoing part of my research for the Slag Heap project I was capturing recordings in order to document my location as I thought and wrote about emotional attachment to location and separation, perhaps hoping find a correlation or pattern. This resulted in many recordings taken on the two hour train journey from Kings Cross to Wakefield. From the window of the train I could see the destruction the November 2019 floods had caused, particularly as we passed through poorer areas around Doncaster and Sheffield. I felt very moved by what I witnessed and created a short work mixing the recordings I had of rain battering the train window and a field recording I made at the burst banks of the river that flows through my home village.
