a slag heap on film (2020)

Taken on 36mm film. These are the first shots I took with a film camera and fall into a greater multimedia project I am producing for my graduation show at UAL.

As a young man my great-grandad watched as the mine workers created the slag heap. As a boy my grandad watched as life began to grow. As a girl my mother walked the family dog around the woodland that had settled. As a child my brother, cousins, uncles and I built forts and played great expansive imaginary games. Each November the 5th four generations of my family gathered on the slag heap to celebrate bonfire night, next to the graves of countless pets and creatures. This mound of earth is a very significant encapsulation of “home”.
